I guess it was about a year ago when I decided my packaging needed to be spruced up. I grew tired of packaging ugly, generic cases for weddings when the couple had invested so much in me. I felt like they needed more! I wanted something as nice as an album to protect their images and something beautiful that wouldn’t end up in the drawer of a desk. And those cheap, clear DVD cases weren’t cutting it. The search began. I knew I wanted it to be a folio of some sort and I knew it needed to match my brand. I also wanted to SOMEHOW incorporate a frame into it… yeah, I realize I was looking for something that didn’t exist. I found lots of things that were *nice* but just not quite right for what I needed. I feel like I searched for months until I came across Jodi & Kurt‘s post about their handmade folios. They were so beautiful, I fell in love right then and there. Why didn’t I think of it before!?! I will just make them :) I sent them an email right away explaining my dilemma and asked for their help. It wasn’t long before I was in their adorable home in Farmville learning how to make these awesome DVD folios. They were so helpful and patient. Kurt did most of the teaching while Jodi gathered a list of all the materials I would need. At first I was feeling super overwhelmed. These folios ARE NOT easy to make. They take quite a bit of time to produce and you have to be very precise. However, for me, the end result was PERFECT! They were exactly what I had been wanting! Before our meeting, I had been searching high and low for the perfect, little, gold frames. I finally found a guy on ebay selling them and I think I bought all he had. You have no idea how many stores I called and visited, how many sites I checked out, how many miniature frames I purchased until I found the perfect ones. I was on a crazy hunt and they came all the way from Taiwan :) I went through the same ordeal trying to find the perfect ribbon. Who knew it was so difficult to find grey, velvet ribbon!? With all of those elements tied together the folios fit my brand to a T. But without Jodi & Kurt, this wouldn’t even be possible- so THANK YOU for helping me with these!!!
After all of my gagillion (not a word?!) tools, pieces, cutters, rulers, boards, binding cloth, etc arrived it had been a while since our meeting. I had all of my directions written down but I felt super overwhelmed. I was so anxious to get started! It took me forever to make my first few but after I got the hang out it they were coming along much quicker and much nicer looking. It’s definitely a process of trail and error but like I said, for me it’s totally worth it. I love making things and I am very particular about the way I want things to be. I am so happy to offer these custom DVD folios to my wedding clients! Now you have an AWESOME way to store your images that fits your overall experience with me :) Yay!
