I knew I wanted to get LOTS more film into my portfolio and I really wanted to experiment with different lighting situations and film. It’s hard playing around with it during weddings and client shoots. I certainly don’t want to experiment with their photos when they’ve invested a lot into working with me. My awesome photographer friend, Abby offered to be my model and I was so excited! She is SUCH a sweetheart and I was really eager to start photographing her.
I had a specific vision in mind for this session. I knew I wanted it to be a bridal shoot right away because bridal portraits are one of my most favorite things to shoot! I wanted to create a scene that was totally ME. I know that sounds kind of odd, but this is for my portfolio. If I’m going to invest hundreds of dollars getting film scans for an “experiment” I wanted to at least have something really awesome that reflected my style.
With a gorgeous model like Abby and the perfect location all I needed were some beautiful florals and a dress. In my mind, I knew I wanted it to evoke a dreamy, soft feeling while being very beautiful. Rebekah (another awesome photographer friend) was sweet enough to lend Abby her wedding gown for the shoot! I was really after something flowy and soft and her tulle gown was just right :)
It wasn’t hard for me to find a florist! I posted in a group I’m a part of, that I wanted to collaborate for a shoot and Amanda of Anthomanic was the first to respond. I checked out her work and FELL IN LOVE! My search was over. I found the perfect person for this shoot. Seriously, Amanda is CRAZY talented! I gave her a description of the type of shoot I was looking to create, told her I wanted a bouquet and a floral crown and listed some of my favorite flowers and that was about it.
It was a gillion degrees outside but the day of our shoot finally came! I was REALLY excited :) On the way, I gave Amanda a call to check up on things and she began to describe the bouquet. She said, “I hope I didn’t go too crazy with the gold spraypaint!” To be completely honest, I was kind of nervous when she said that. Spray paint? On a bouquet? Then she went on to describe it and it sounded AMAZING! And the fact that she incorporated my favorite color, GOLD I just knew it would be perfect. And after I saw the bouquet and headpiece… I almost died. They were more than I’d hoped for!!
Abby was a freaking trooper! It was BLAZING hot out and I was on fire- I just knew she must have been so uncomfortable in a wedding gown in that heat! But she didn’t complain. She kept smiling and was the best model! She was so patient with me and we had an awesome time!! I loved working with her <3
I waited and WAITED for the scans to come back and once they finally came in, I couldn’t stop staring at them! My dream shoot turned out to be just what I’d hoped for!! I am so excited to FINALLY share these images with you all!! Thank you Abby, Rebekah and Amanda… I couldn’t have done it without you girls!
And my love affair with film continues….
